Reading
Goals of reading in 4th Grade are to increase comprehension in a variety of literature and genres with a special emphasis in reading to learn, rather than learning to read. Wordly Wise
This is a great program to continue to expose our students to the words they most commonly see in our reading! We will study each unit for 2 weeks and then take an assessment on Fridays.

Word StudyAs all good students, we will continue to learn to spell properly! We will also work on learning roots, prefixes, and suffixes so that we can expand our understanding of words and enable us to gain the skill set to decipher any and all words.

Writing
We will use the writing process to help students develop into better writers. The writing genres that we will work on all year are: Narrative, Informative, Persuasive, and Response to our Reading GrammarGood Grammar is essential to good writing. This year we will emphasize learning and using proper verb- subject agreement, complete sentences, and proper punctuation in our writing. We will also learn to recognize sentence types and structures and the various parts of speech that words belong to -- proper and common nouns, helping, action, or linking verbs, adjectives, adverbs, subject, possessive, or object pronouns, and conjunctions!
We will use our Superwriters workbook to target skills and DGP for our daily practice. Students will have weekly quizzes (Mondays) on our DGP sentence of the week. Students are encourage to take their Morning Workbook home to aid in studying for this quiz.
